Georgia Times Union Article - Family with 2 children leaves home to be full-time campers

"Then He said, Beware! Don't be greedy for what you don't have.  Real life is not measured by what we own." Luke 12:15

"Yes a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God." Luke 12:21

"But seek first His Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. " Matthew 6:33

Here you will find the no holds barred absolute truth about life.  Do you feel like you are spinning your wheels just making ends meet?  Are you working (or working to find a job), involved in voluteer work or knee deep in endless projects or programs?  Do you feel like you are making a difference, or do you feel tired and confused about whether it is all worth it? This describes how my husband and I felt a few years ago.  My husband and I had both been working while raising three children ages 9, 11 and 16.  My husband worked, and still does work, two jobs; one provides the bulk of his income and the other provides supplemental income plus our family insurance.  We had been involved in our local church working with children and locked in to bible studies, my husband has served as coach on our children's soccer teams for a number of years, plus we have involved ourselves in a wide variety of other extracurricular activities, but for some reason we were not satisfied with that and had a nagging sense that something wasn't right.  It took some time, prayer and thought, but we finally realized what was missing.  Were we raising our children?  Were we spending time teaching them about life, about how to be respectful of us, of others?  Were we teaching them who God is, and what He says about life?  Or were we so busy involved in all the details of life, that we missed what really matters?  In the end, and there will be an end (you can read all about it in the Bible...and I encourage you to do just that because "time is of the essence") Jesus is coming back to sort the laundry, so to speak.  He will make two piles: clean and dirty, or, those who knew him and those who did not.  It will be the final "laundry session".  Those who knew him will be made new, those who did not will be thrown into the fire.  It's that simple, and with that in mind, my husband and I had an urgent sense that we had to make a change.  That is when we decided to sell all of our possessions (other than necesseties) and begin to live well below our means.  We realized my time was more valuable to my family than it was to my job, so I left my job.  Some people congratulated me, while some disapproved, but I knew that we had made the right choice, and  after my last day of work, a peace and joy overwhelmed me and I could not keep from smiling big because I knew that God had just lifted the heaviest burden of my life.  My husband and I committed to seek out God in a most urgent way, and to begin to pour into our children and the community what God gives us.  We began our adventure in September of 2012 in a 32-foot travel trailer in a beautiful riverside campground.  After a few months and alot of thought and prayer, we decided to jump in with both feet and invest in a 42-foot, 3 bedroom, bath and a half, fifth wheel.  We decided to commit to long term camping!  We can't beleive what we've been missing out on all these years!

When we started camping, Sam and Kirsen were in public school, as they had been all of thier lives, and we kept them in school all year long, but something started changing in our hearts and minds about that too, and now, after much answered prayer to our Father God, we started this new school year homeschooling Sam and Kirsten, or "campschooling" them, but better called "lifeschooling".  The time spent with them in this way is precious, to say the least.

From our family to yours, our goal is to share with you how we are doing, and what we are learning on our "adventure" and to share with you links to the tools and resources that help us learn how to live frugaly, manage family time, manage business endeavors, manage ourselves and learn who God is and what life is really all about.

My name is Jen, I am the blogger of the Rubel family, I am a recovering shy person (I am grossly understating here), and I am stepping out of my comfort zone because I have alot to say to all who will hear.  There is no other reason you are here on this earth than to please God.  Whatever reason exists that brought you to come to this website, you are going to get that I want the whole world to know that there is a God.  He changed my life, and He wants to change yours too.  For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16), and if anyone wants to follow Him, they must turn from their selfish ways, take up their cross daily, and follow Him (Luke 9:23).

More than anything else, I will be writing about the "selfish ways" that God convicts me of, the wrong notions and thought processes that have kept me from really knowing God for so long and  how I see Him correcting me.  I am no where close to being all I should be, but by the Power of God, I am moving forward into unfamiliar territory and sharing my jouney with you.

This blog is, as is my life, a work in progress, so stay tuned!

Good News!

"The Lord isn't being slow about His promise to return, as somepeople think.  No, He is being patient for your sake.  He does not want anyone to perish, so He is giving more time for everyone to repent.  But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief."  2 Peter...

In The News Today

Texas secession??  Read article from Huffington Post.  Funny - out of the clear blue our 9-year-old, Kirsten, said the other day that she would like to go to Texas.  We've never ever talked about Texas!
